Lansing Equal Pay Day. The Michigan Equal Pay Day Coalition invites the public to recognize Equal Pay Day, a national day of recognition that, even after more than 53 years of federal law banning sex-based wage discrimination, there is still a significant pay gap between women's and men's wages. The Michigan Equal Pay Day event will occur on the Capitol steps in Lansing. Similar events are occurring across the nation.

Equal Pay Day symbolizes how far into the year women must work to earn what men earned the previous year. Tuesday is the day of the week on which women's wages catch up to men's wages from the previous week. For more information, click here

16th District State Representative (covers Wayne and most of Westland). Democratic candidates at the forum: Kevin Coleman, Jacob Johnson and Mike McDermott. Mr. Bill Johnson did not attend. Note: there is only one Republican candidate on the Primary ballot (Jody Rice-White), and because there is no challenger, she did not participate in the forum.

6th District State Senate (covers the Cities of Westland, Belleville, Flat Rock, Rockwood, Romulus and Taylor and the Townships of Van Buren, Sumpter, Brownstown and Huron). Democratic candidates at the forum: Erika Geiss and Robert Kosowski. Republican Candidates Five candidates are vying for the Republican nomination. The candidates who participated were: Kerry Bentivolio, Klint Kesto and Rocky Raczkowski. Not participating: Lena Epstein and Mike Kowall.

Democratic Candidates Five candidates are vying for the Democratic nomination. All candidates participated in the forum: Tim Greimel, Suneel Gupta, Fayrouz Saad, Nancy Skinner and Haley Stevens.

Sumpter Township Community Center Candidate's Forum - Sumpter Township. The candidate forums for those running for the partial terms for Sumpter Township Clerk, Treasurer, and Board of Trustees are completed. Click on the links below to view the forums:

Sumpter Township Clerk (About 30 minutes). Three Democratic candidates are competing for the position. Sheena Barnes and Esther Hurst participated in the forum; Toni Clark did not. There are no Republican or Libertarian candidates running.

Sumpter Township Treasurer (About 30 minutes). Three Democratic candidates are competing for the position. All three participated in the forum: Kenneth Bednark, Peggy Morgan and Ronald Barrington-Robinson. There are no Republican or Libertarian candidates running.

Sumpter Township Trustee (About one hour). There are four candidates on the Democratic ballot: Jay Bardell II, Kit D. Dewyer, Antoine Jordan and Jennifer Price. Ms. Price has withdrawn from the race. The other three candidates participated in the forum and were joined by the sole Republican candidate, Tim Rush. There are no Libertarian candidates.

Women's Equality Day is celebrated every year on the Saturday closest to August 26th which is the day in 1920 when the 19th Amendment was passed giving women the right to vote. Livonia City Hall Auditorium Candidate's Forum: Livonia City Council and Livonia Mayor. These forums, held prior to the Primary election, have been completed, but are available here on video. The videos are still valuable to discern the opinions and positions of the candidates on the November ballot. Of the 3 candidates running for Mayor in the Primary, two (Laura Toy and Maureen Miller-Brosnan) have advanced to the November election. Of the 12 candidates running in the Primary Election for 4 City Council seats, 8 candidates who received the most votes are advancing to the November 5th General Election (Scott Bahr, Kathleen McIntyre, Brandon McCullough, Rob Donovic, Eileen McDonnell, Jim Davis, Gregory Coppola and Brian Duggan). The candidates were randomly divided into two groups and participated in 45-minute sessions.

CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE VIDEO 1 includes: Leo Weber, Gregory Coppola, Steve King, Scott Bahr and Gerald Perez. Only Gregory Coppola and Scott Bahr will be on the November ballot, however Leo Weber has filed the necessary paperwork to be a write-in candidate.

CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE VIDEO 2 includes: Rob Donovic, James Davis, Jr., Eileen McDonnell, Brandon McCullough and Kathleen McIntyre. ALL of these candidates will be on the November ballot.

Brian Duggan, a City Council candidate who will be on the November ballot, did not participate in the forum.

The MAYORAL FORUM VIDEO includes the 3 mayoral candidates: Maureen Miller Brosnan, Bruce Tenniswood and Laura Toy. Toy and Brosnan will be on the November 5th election ballot.
